IBP – Try to describe your book in one sentence.
Laurel – Damien longs for freedom and after years slavery, trapped in a world of darkness, he is offered his freedom if he kills Aurora of Acquitaine, the only woman who sees him as the hero he longs to be.
IBP – Tell me a little about yourself
Laurel – I was born and have lived my entire life in Illinois. I have four children ranging in ages from 21 to 13, five cats and a wonderful, supportive husband. I’ve been writing since Junior High School and will continue to as long as I am able.
IBP - Did you always had in mind to be a writer or it just happened?
Laurel – I’ve always enjoyed writing. I love creating new and interesting characters. I never expected to publish a book. I wrote because I liked it. I entered the Romance Writers of America’s national contest, the Golden Heart, for feedback and was fortunate enough to be a finalist. My editor was a judge and offered me a contract. So, I have to say that it kind of just happened.
IBP – Do you read reviews written about your book?
Laurel – Sometimes. I love when people enjoy my work, but am heartbroken when they don’t. I really want to please my readers.
IBP – What is it you love most about writing? What’s the hardest part of writing for you?
Laurel – I love when a scene comes together. When the words flow and the emotions are so tangible I can feel them. I love the feeling of having it right on the paper. It’s magic.
The hardest part of writing for me is moving on to the next book. Sometimes I fall in love with the characters so much that I don’t want it to end. However, I love giving my characters their happy endings.
IBP – Who is your favorite character in your new release?
Laurel – My hero, Damien. He is so troubled and so dark, and he thinks there is no hope for him. He is an assassin who has known nothing but betrayal and darkness his entire life, from the beginning when his father sold he and his brother into slavery for a bag of gold. Yet, Damien yearns to be free, truly free. He is stunned when he meets Aurora and she sees goodness in him.
IBP – What inspired you to write, you took any ideas from other books, movies etc?
Laurel – It’s always the feelings for me. Emotions. I will watch a movie like Titanic and that feeling when Rose has to let Jack go into the ocean will inspire me to write a different scene. I love grand adventures and that’s what I try to make in my novels.
IBP – What book is currently on your nightstand?
Laurel – Victoria Alexander’s A Little Bit Wicked

IBP - What are your thoughts on ebooks? (i.e. love them, hate them, wave of the future)
Laurel – Love them! Wave of the future and all that. With technology growing so fast, ebooks are only going to grow and offer new opportunities for readers and writers.
IBP – What projects are you currently working on right now? Would you mind sharing them with us?
Laurel – I am working on the second episode of my urban fantasy series, Lost Souls titled Imperfection. After that I plan to write a short medieval romance as a gift for my readers. And then I will finish up my medieval romance Cursed With a Kiss. Lots of exciting things happening! I’m looking forward to the future.
Thanks so much for interviewing me. It was a pleasure.
Trained to kill swiftly and emotionlessly, Damien has lived his life in darkness, desiring only one thing, to be free. When his master offers him his freedom for the completion of one last mission, Damien doesn’t hesitate. He has no doubt that he will be free. Until he sees the woman he is to kill. She is his…
Compassionate and kind, Aurora of Acquitaine is the epitome of goodness. She lives her life trying to atone for her mother’s cruelty by being fair and just to her people. But when she is attacked by an assassin, she fears her mother’s killer has returned for her.
Will Damien find redemption in Aurora’s kindness or will his darkness consume her?
Laurel O’Donnell lives in Illinois with her husband, four children and five cats. She has always enjoyed escaping into the medieval era, including spending a summer interning at the renaissance faire in Wisconsin where she learned to sword fight and recite Shakespeare. Now, she spends her time reading a good book, or swimming or, of course, writing.
