IBP – Tell us about your new release?

LARedemption is the second book in the Pursuit Series.  It begins six months after the end of book one and tells the story of Bryan Roemer, a character readers met in the first story.  In the book, Bryan Roemer is rejected, heartbroken, and lost.  After losing his life-long love, Miranda Reid, to Derek Gainnes, he is faced with a new reality that has caused him to abandon love altogether.  He has been passing his time with Mara, the woman he met at the end of book one, who is exotic, beautiful, sexy, and has provided him with a welcome distraction to take his mind off his pain.  Still, his days are a blur, and his nights are spent drowning in memories.

He is summoned back east to photograph the wedding of his friends, Nick Flaherty and Carrie Mayer. Bryan reluctantly returns to the one place that he swore he never would, and his friends notice that the months away have changed Bryan.  When he arrives, the rest of the Circle finds that he hasn’t come alone.  Something dark and sinister has come with him.

The story isn’t only about heartbreak and loss or darkness and possession.  As the title suggests, it is also a story of redemption.  When Bryan returns, he is reunited with Cassidy Baker, a woman from his past who has the ability to help him heal, mend his broken heart, and even save his life.

IBP – How would my friends describe me in 20 words or less?

LA – I asked a few of my friends to describe me, and I was humbled and honored by the responses.  I was described as introspective, a dreamer, a doer, confident, an individual, loyal, forgiving, a schemer in a fun way, should be saving the world with Greenpeace somewhere, intelligent, a giver, genuine.

IBP – Do you listen to music while writing?

LA – I absolutely do!  For each of my novels, I have had a playlist specific to the story.  The playlist for Redemption featured a lot of songs by artists like Breaking Benjamin, Theory of a Deadman, Skillet, Relient K, Sum 41, Lifehouse, Sanctus Real, and The Script.

IBP – Do you keep track or write reviews for books you read?

LA – Yes, I do.  As an author, I value the feedback I get from readers and want to do the same for my colleagues in the writing community.  Reviews of books I read can be found on my blog (www.lakuehlke.com), Goodreads, and Amazon.  I also post them on Twitter and Facebook.

IBP – Why did you choose the genre you write in?

LA – I am a die-hard romantic, so writing romance was an easy choice for me.  I’ve also been intrigued by the idea of the supernatural or paranormal for as long as I can remember.  As a huge fan of paranormal romance, I’ve found I enjoy writing it as much as reading it.  It gives the writer the opportunity to create worlds that are not confined by the boundaries of “reality”.  When dealing with the supernatural or paranormal elements, I am able to give my characters abilities that many of us wish or dream to have.

IBP – What’s your favorite part of writing a book?

LA – My favorite part of writing a book is interacting with my characters.  I do plot out the stories, but I also find that the characters will often make decisions to change what I’d originally planned, taking the story in a different, better direction than I’d first imagined.  Readers say that they are able to connect with my characters, that they become real to them.  The same holds true for me when writing.  I am a tremendously relational person, and that is probably why I love to write them and watch them take on lives of their own, growing, and changing.

IBP – How did you come up with the premise for your books?

LA – One day, I was reading through a passage in Ephesians about the Armor of God.  I teach middle school writing in a Christian school, so this happened to be during one of our chapel times.  As I read it, I thought, “What if this wasn’t just symbolic?  What if each piece of this armor was actually a power, contained within a human being?  What if these people came together to form a ‘Circle’ to fight off evil attacks in their lives?”  The story evolved from there.  I have always been fascinated by angels, and the inclusion of the spiritual realm with angels and demons was seamless and natural.

IBP – How many books do you read/month?

LA – On average, I read five to seven books a month.

IBP – How can readers stay in touch?

LA – Readers can stay in touch on Twitter (https://twitter.com/lakuehlke), Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/pages/LA-Kuehlke/235128403171154), via my website (http://www.lakuehlke.com), or e-mail (lakuehlke@gmail.com).

IBP – If you could visit any place in the world or a place created by a book, where would you visit?

LA – I thought about this for a while since I’ve read many books and there are so many places from which to choose.  However, I settled on the secret garden, created by Francis Hodgson Burnett. It has captured my imagination since childhood.

IBP – What is in the works for you next?

LA – Currently, I am writing the final installment to the Pursuit Series.  Book three, Ransomed, continues the story of the Circle.  From the very first pages, readers are thrust into the action of the story.  It focuses on restoration between characters, the rescue of one lost to darkness, and features an epic good vs. evil battle that will shock the readers of the series.  I’m very excited about it and plan to release the novel in spring of 2013.

A risk taken.

A battle for his soul.

A chance for…Redemption.

How do you keep going after the one person you always believed you were meant to be with forever gives their heart to someone else?

In the second book of the Pursuit Series, Bryan Roemer is rejected, heartbroken, and lost.  After losing his life-long love, Miranda Reid, to Derek Gainnes, he is faced with a new reality that has caused him to abandon love altogether.  Meeting Mara – exotic, beautiful, sexy – on the flight back to California provided him with a welcome distraction to take his mind off his pain.  Still, his days are a blur, and his nights are spent drowning in memories.

Summoned back east to photograph the wedding of his friends, Nick Flaherty and Carrie Mayer, he reluctantly returns to the one place that he swore he’d never would. Six months away have changed Bryan.  And when he arrives, the rest of the Circle find that he hasn’t come alone.  Something dark and sinister has come with him.  Something that is determined to keep him at all costs.

But waiting there for Bryan is a second chance…one that just might save his life.

Bio:Laura Kuehlke, indie author of Redemption, a romance novel

My world exists in words.

When this wonderful world was opened up to me at a young age, a passionate love of reading developed.  I am rarely seen without a book, and at any given time there are at least twenty or more waiting in my “to-read” piles.

And, of course, reading them led to writing them.

For as long as I can remember, I have written stories.   Family and friends have patiently  listened to my tales and encouraged me when I decided to turn a childhood dream into reality.

However, when it comes down to the basic essence of what makes me “just me”, here is what you get: a sometimes snarky lover of  a good paranormal romance, a seeker of balance, a firm believer that a tasty soy chai and the color pink make life happier.

I currently live in NJ but dream of the many places that await me beyond its borders.
